Description

2089P Colt 1860 Army Type II Conversion, also known as the Transition or 2nd Model, cal. 44 Colt CF, 8 inch barrel, manufactured 1871-72, SN 193XXX.
Colt made less of the Type II Models than the1st Models. They are the transition to the next Model, the Richards Mason and the last of the 60 Army Cartridge Conversions.
The Type II differs from the 1st in that the conversion ring, hammer and gate of the Richards Mason design were used instead of the original Richards design.
All 3 Colt Conversion Models were made for the straight cased 44 Colt round, not the later 44/40. Some of these old Conversions have had the cylinders bored to use the later 44/40 round.
This Conversion has not been drilled out for 44/40, it will only take the straight cased 44 Colt round.
A good majority of the Army Conversions were nickel plated as this one was. Overall it has about 30% nickel remaining. The action is tight and correct.
